Extended travel packages

 

Women and Social/ Environmental Justice [7 days / 6 nights]

Day 1: Urban women's issues: Visit women's support organizations.

Day 2 Rural women's issues: Travel to a women's agricultural cooperative in Northern Costa Rica.

Day 3 Visit the Cooperative's farm and forest and discuss activities women.  Discuss Afro-Costa Rican culture and women's issues.  

Day 4 Depart for the Atlantic region:  Visit to a rural women's community project.

Day 5 Visit with another womenÕs group managing an organic banana farm.

Day 6  Visit Kekoldi Indigenous Reserve and talk with female leaders.  Visit to Cahuita National Park.

Day 7 Return to San José

 

Caribbean Overview [7 days/ 6 nights]

Day 1 Conventional banana production and associated social and environmental problems.  Visit "Africa", one of the oldest Caribbean communities.

Day 2 Cahuita: Caribbean culture and community efforts. Cahuita National Park- Presentation on community park management.

Day 3 Visit organic banana farm and meet with growers.
Women's association with organic farm and medicinal plant garden.

Day 4 Puerto Viejo.  Discussion of impacts of tourism and on the culture, the economy, and the environment.  Visit community recycling center and discuss waste management issues confronting area.

Day 5 Visit Indigenous Reserve and discuss the community's efforts to preserve their environment and culture.

Day 6 Visit Gandoca/ Manzanillo Wildlife Refuge-Costa Rican National Park System.  

Day 7 Return to San José.
